A promising educational idea needs room to become something people can use. Through AIEDx, the Institute of AI in Education (IAIED), Singapore supports work connecting AI research with educational practice. Critsly is one example.
Critsly’s development was supported by an AIEDx grant from IAIED (UEN 53487769M). Its public acknowledgement records that support.
Keep the learning going after the critique
A studio conversation can open up a new direction. The next challenge is helping a learner remember the reasoning, examine the feedback and decide what to change. A useful critique process gives students a way to return to those decisions as their work develops.
Critsly brings visual work, AI-supported critique, reflection and peer review into a shared workspace for architecture, design and project-based learning. Students can organise an idea, consider different perspectives and turn feedback into a next step. Educators retain responsibility for teaching and assessment.
A more deliberate feedback cycle
- Make the work visible. Put the artefact and its design intent together so feedback has a clear context.
- Pause for reflection. Ask what the learner is trying to achieve, which choices need explanation and what evidence is still missing.
- Consider another perspective. Use structured AI critique and peer review to raise questions worth investigating.
- Choose an action. Identify a practical revision and return to the work to see what changed.
For educators considering a classroom trial, start with a clear learning purpose. Decide how students will use feedback, which decisions remain with the educator and what evidence would make the trial useful. A focused pilot can help a teaching team understand where a workflow fits its own context.
